Saving and Sharing Steps in Pacer – A Guide for Pacer iOS

Did you just have your best step day ever? Did you take an amazing photo of your walk? Or do you just want to share your steps with your friends and Pacer group members?

On Pacer for iOS, you can save and share your steps, and add a background photo from your phone in a few simple steps. You’ll be able to share this picture on all of your favorite social media sites, or just retain it for your personal records with a beautiful picture of where you walked. Here’s how!

NOTE: The sharing process on Android is currently different. See this guide for how to share on Android. The upgraded iOS features will be coming to Android in a future update!

2. Pick a format/background and post

Choose your format and background

You can swipe left or right to choose your favorite display format. Some formats display calories and active time, while some don’t. Some display options leave the center of the picture free so you can feature your photos.

When you’ve chosen the format you like, click the icon on the top right to select a background photo. Photo backgrounds are optional – you don’t have to add a photo if you don’t want to. If you haven’t given the Pacer App permission to access your photos, you’ll get a pop-up prompting you to grant this access. Select the photo you like best. You can use your fingers to zoom in or out to highlight the part of the photo you want. Once you’re happy with your photo, click “Choose” at the bottom right to select that photo.

Save or post

Now that you have your screenshot, choose what you want to do with it! To post to your Pacer Feed, simply click the “Post to Feed” button at the bottom right. You’ll be sent to the Pacer Feed post screen to complete this process

You can also click “Save” to save a screenshot of this photo. A screenshot will be saved on your phone, and you’ll also receive a prompt to share or post on various social apps. Save the screenshot for later, or post it to your social media account immediately – it’s up to you!

3. Finalize your Pacer Feed post

Write a message to accompany your post. Tell your Pacer followers how you got so many steps, what interesting things you saw during your walk or how you’re feeling. You’ll get more likes with a good description!

You can also add additional photos by clicking the photo icon.

When you’re happy with your post, click “Post” and your amazing screenshot will be posted to your Pacer Feed!

Saving your GPS walk/run

The process for saving your GPS walk or run is very similar to saving your step count, but there are a few more things you have to do. Here’s a walkthrough!

1. Start GPS activity tracking

If you want to save your GPS track, you need to track an activity first! Start Pacer’s GPS tracking and then go get active!

2. Pause and Finish your GPS activity

You’ll need to finish your GPS track to post it to your feed. First, click “Pause” to Pause your GPS session.

Pacer Finish GPS Walking Interface

Click “Finish” to Finish your GPS track. If you’d like to keep walking and you’re not ready to end your track, you can click Resume to continue. Clicking Finish ends the track.

3. Save Your Walk (and Add Name + Photos)

Pause Name and Save GPS Walk Interface

After you click “Finish,” you’ll see the summary of your activity. You can name your GPS track and change the activity type to walk/run/hike if you need to.

Next, add any photos of your GPS track you’d like to add. This can be a great addition to your records, and can also be added to a Pacer Route you can create from this track. See a future article on how to create a great Route.

When you’re finished, click “Save Activity.” Make sure to save your walk so you can admire your hard work!

4. Click to Create a Screenshot

After saving your GPS track, you’ll have a few different options of what to do next. You can edit your post, add photos, or create a Pacer Route from your track. Since we’re saving and sharing screenshots right now, click the icon highlighted in the photo above to share a screenshot!

5. Pick a format/background and post

Choose your format and background

Swipe right or left to choose the format for your stats and activity past that you like best. Some formats remove the walking path entirely, while others leave the middle of the screen empty so that your background photo will be more clearly visible.

Once you have the format you like best, click the “Photo” icon at the top right to select a background photo. If Pacer does not have access to your photos, you’ll get a pop-up asking you to give the app permission now. You don’t have to choose a photo if you don’t want to! Feed posts with photos tend to get more likes and comments, so consider taking photos of the scenery to post with your GPS track.

5. Finalize your Pacer Feed post

Write a message to accompany your post. You can post whatever feels right to you at the time! Tell your Pacer followers how you got so many steps, what interesting things you saw during your walk or how you’re feeling. You’ll get more likes with a good description!

You can also add additional photos to your Feed post by clicking the photo icon. Many Pacers like to post their steps or GPS track as well as several photos of things they saw during their walk.

When you’re happy with your post, click “Post” and your amazing screenshot will be posted to your Pacer Feed!

    1. We created Routes so that people can share their favorite walking paths. Someone in your area may think your walking path is a great place to walk. Some tips: when you make or edit routes, you can use our Trim Route feature to set the start and end in public places. You can also post anonymously, and you can still set the route to Anonymous even after you’ve posted.
